A challenge....

My home theatre system:
Yamaha Receiver RXv800
2 x main speakers (Mission M74)
1 x center (Mission)
2 x rear (M31i Mission)
1 x CD/DVD Pioneer

When I listen to music only using the 2 x main speakers, I find that I need to put the volume higher to be able to hear every little sound. I would like to keep the volume low and still hear all instruments

Would an integrated amp rectify this issue?

Many thank to the person who could help me with this.

What mode or setting are you using on your receiver to listen to music? You should be using stereo, or at least by-pass any DSP setting on your receiver.

That being said, HT receivers are usually not very good for serious music listening, so yes, an integrated would typically be a better bet.

Use Direct mode if the receiver has such a setting for your CD play.

I agree with what David posted too.

The source from DVD will be inherently higher than redbook cd.

You can attenuate the signal from the HT player from the OSD.

That's a good point too.

If it's like my Yamaha HT receiver it does have a "direct mode". It sounds better.

I have checked again for 'direct mode' and no such availability on my RXv800 Yamaha HT. I tried again by-passing DSP and using CH Stereo mode is Ok, but just Ok. I feel I could get a much better sound from the Mission speakers.

I start seriously to buy an integrated amplifier. My concern is that I need to hear this amplifier with Mission speakers and they don't sell everywhere. Might need to go to Montreal.

If any of you have a suggestion, I will certainly take is seriously.

And indeed, Lise, you will get better from the Missions with a better amp and SOURCE.

The SOURCE is everything.
