I wonder if this was made by Saul Marantz?

.

Saul was well out of the hifi business by the time cassette came into vogue. To my knowledge he never constructed player pianos.

An older couple that I knew had one of those.
In 1986 or so.

Do you play, Chris?

Do you suppose another company licensed the name, or were the two unrelated?

And can I play a player piano, absolutely.

I suspect the two names are unrelated, though I'm surprised Superscope (who owned Marantz at the time) would allow any other use of the name. This could acccount for the lack of information about this unit.

Your assignment, CM, search out the name and ownership of Marantz player pianos.

Should you accept this assignment you will be working on your own. If you or any of your team are captured or killed all kowledge of your activites will be denied.

Good luck, Mr. Molloy.

This thread will self-destruct in 10 seconds.

"Made by the Kincaid Piano Company, formerly called the Grand Piano Company. The Marantz name came about because of the Pianocorder system (the first player/recorder piano to use cassette tape for playback - think pianodisc) built by the Superscope division of Marantz in Chatsworth, CA. They bought the Grand Piano Company, changed the name to Kincaid Piano Company, branched into furniture. The only Marantz stereo products built there were a few stereo speakers. Definitely some of the worst pianos ever to be built."

And another piece of trivia drops into place.
My collection continues to grow.

Here is where it ended up:

Yamaha or somebody built a piano roll reader and put 'em on computer media. The were than played thru a Yamaha Clavinova and put on CD.
The Album is::

So there you have it, Gershwin lived long enough to make a CD!

What a pleasant diversion.

The piano, Leo, or just the play rolls?
That would be nice for decor with a mint album cover.

Nuck,
I was hoping for something more modest than a Piano, for which I have NO room.....well maybe the garage.

Nope, what I was hoping for was Vol.#2 of Gershwin plays Gershwin!
I like that stuff and Gershwin's style, feel and approach to playing were apparently preserved intact.

Pair of great albums.

Obviously NOT Gershwin playing, but an interesting piece, nonetheless.

I bought Volume One, I'm looking forward to listening to it.

Zenph Audio's Re-Performances might interest some of you, I have the Art Tatum: Piano Starts Here re-performance and found it a pretty interesting listen.
