Both power ratings are similar. How are these two different then? Is the 1804 a 6.1 receiver?

I know what the website says...7.1 vs. 6.1, lower THD, but I would like to know what its functional differences are. Sound quality, etc.

Denons are remarkably consistant in their sound quality between the 1803/1804, the 2803 and the 3803. My problem is that the sound is dry and sterile--for music it is not engaging at all. I have lived with my Denon now since last winter and I can't wait to trade it in.
