The idea was inspired by Jan's Watch This! thread. There's so much great music on You Tube, I figured we can post links to stuff we like, kind of like the Music Selections thread. There's also a ton of stuff about hifi. My Apple TV has got me looking for all sorts of stuff on You Tube.

Please keep the posts music and hifi related and no stuff like 2 Girls One Cup.

Here's one I stumbled on a few weeks ago - Pearl Jam doing an acoustic set in Tower Records in Yonkers, NY before anyone really knew who they were. Great performance of the song Porch -

Black Sabbath live in Paris, 1970 performing Paranoid with a little behind the scenes intro -

Metallica live with the late, great Cliff Burton on bass playing the intro to For Whom The Bell Tolls -

Post whatever you like. The genre doesn't matter, the performance is what its all about!

To add. TOOL played here in Kingston last night. Nothing on You Tube with that show yet, but here is one of my favorite Tool songs live. Not great quality, but meh.

Donald Byrd - The Little Rasti
One take, no editing. The hazy and shady ambience of early seventees Jazz clubs is captured perfectly in this over 17min jam.

Nick, have you ever listened to Isis? They toured with Tool a few years back.....Pretty much my favorite band.

Another of my favorite bands is Mogwai....This video shows what they're all about:

He gives me goosebumps all over pretty much every time I hear him. You gotta luv the James Brownish act before the end when they get him back up from his knees.

John Lee is another favorite of mine who captures the essence of blues like not many can.

Next time you're CD chopping, pick up Oceanic, you won't be let down. The progression/flow of it is just amazing. And since you're a Tool fan, you'd probably like In The Abscence of Truth, as it's pretty Tool-ish (this is the one they toured with Tool to support). Again, they're pretty much my favorite band, they're putting out some of the best new music of that style imo.

Here's one from their newest album Wavering Radiant, which is also really solid (but honestly they've never put anything bad out, even the EPs are great):

On the hifi side of things since that's what the topic is about.....These vids are two of my favorites:

YouTube is full of very young guitarists who embarrass the rest of us;

The roots of Rock and Roll (who Elvis listened to when he was still a student at Humes H.S. and dating Dixie Locke);

Who was Sam Phillips recording before the white boy who could sing like a black man walked into Sun Recording Studio to (supposedly) make a recording for his mother?

Phillips called Wolf the most talented performer he ever worked with;

You might want to watch the Rolling Stones sit at the feet of Howlin' Wolf when they insisted he appear with them on Shindig;

At the time most American kids who watched Shindig had never heard of Howlin' Wolf.

(http://www.puremusic.com/wolf.html)

Wolf had a fierce rivalry with Muddy Waters both in the studio and in the blues clubs of Chicago with Willie Dixon writing songs for both and getting them recorded by telling one to listen to what he had just written for the other. The dispute is legendary and is played down in the movie "Cadillac Records".

When Wolf went to London to record with the '60's English blues rockers who had just recently discovered American blues his guitarist was Hubert Sumlin. Sumlin was not originally invited to accompany Wolf to London until Eric Clapton refused to play unless Sumlin was included in the sessions;

Yeah, you wouldn't be half so intimidated if he could only pull this off on one or two songs. But this kid has an incredible roster of performances.

It's too bad there are people who watch this kid and their only response is, "Yeah, but he didn't do the arrangement."
