looking for best thing i can get for $300. I have receiver already (yamaha - not sure which model its rx something). Looking for a good 5.1 channel system.
I was reading a lot and the Fluance AVHTB+ really looked like a great deal to me. I read many reviews and these speakers are supposedly compared to higher end audio quality.
Fluance also has a SXHTB which is slightly better than these for $300 but they come in beech (wooden) color and my home theater is all black - so this would not look gud. Unfortuantely i would have to cancel these out just because of color.

Can any1 tell me if these are actually worth the $200 price tag and would really compare to higher priced speakers? They compared this model to some Onkyo speakers which were in the 500-600 price range.

All help is really appreciated
Thanks :D

.

Don't know who "they" are but Onkyo is not recognized for their speaker quality.

I would suggest you think "small" when on a budget and then grow the system over time.

This Boston Acoustics 5.1 system is an exceptional deal when goes on sale from time to time @ Amazon for $199 (I'd look for it on the next holiday), even at the current asking price of $290, it's a pretty good deal.

"high-end" is kind of hard to pull off with a budget of $300.

That Boston Acoustics 5.1 set-up is a VERY good "bang for your buck", but having never heard any Fluance speakers, I can't say how they directly compare.

But yes, if I was commited to a 5.1, and was on a sub $300 budget, I'd go with the Boston Acoustics having owned & listened to many of their products.

But here are some other good choices:

the best bet would be to start out with 2 good quality mains, and then expand out from there when budget allows.

This is something that has been indirectly suggested by jan and chris, and now directly suggested by me.

You will be better off in the long run. If you have good quality speakers, 5.1 becomes a moot point. I have a 2.0 system with KEF iQ3 bookshelves and do not miss it at all.

Those that are familiar with the speakers that I have know that they are good quality, but not the end all, be all of the audio world.

I have Fluance speakers on my son's gaming system. They've been described as "White Van" speakers before, which I don't think is really fair. They're actually not bad build quality and sound quality wise.

Fluance, I believe, first started out as a factory direct company that developed a very good reputation for its performance price ratio. E-bay had alot to do with its rise, some of their designs for exacting performance compared to size is innovative but sound, e.g. side firing woofers to enhance bass and therefore soundstage. I have seen less of Fluance on e-bay, but believe it is making its way into stores because of its reputation.

A case in point...a mid to high end store in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, the last time I checked, was carrying Fluance---it carries Aragon amplifiers, one of several solid lines. Sooooo, if the sound quality of Fluance is anything like the company that it keeps, then it should be well deserving of the reputation it has been getting. A speaker that I almost bought and would still like to try. Isn't audio auditioning kinda' fun?

well...i picked up the fluance speakers and i have to say they sound awesome. Much much better than i thought they would. Very crisp sound along with no distortion at high volumes. My neighbor has a klipsh setup (its about 8 years old or something and i think its rf series...not sure) and i personally cannot hear a difference between those.

However, this setup does lack a designated sub which i will buy. I seen a Dayton sub on parts express for about 120....would you guys recommend that sub?
i am looking for a sub in the 100 range.

I will also post pix of my full HT setup when i get home
