a set of Wharfedale 9.5 speakers? I can get the receiver cheap from a family member...

I will use it primarily for watching TV and playing music, mostly country and classic rock.

The room they will be used in is sort of large, 15x30 w/ 14ft vaulted ceilings, if this matters.

I do have a 65" DLP 1080p tv.

Would I be better off buying a newer receiver that can do the up converting and hdmi stuff, not likely to get a blue ray any time soon, as I basically just use the TV for watching sports and network TV shows.

I could care less for surround sound and I probably won't even get a sub, bass isn't really my thing anymore.

Not great for music but just fine for watching TV. If you can get it real cheap...perhaps you can get it and try it...tell us what you think.
