My wife bought me a pair of Paradigm Reference Studio 20's. Awesome gift :-)

Anyone ever owned these? I have to get a half decent set of stands before I can check them out. The wait is killing me.

What do you have your Sierra 1's sitting on David ? Can you steal those stands temporarily ?

I can, but I have the Sierras blue-tacked on there pretty good, and we're using them on our main HT system, so my family would probably not appreciate that too much. Got a line on a couple of used stands. Hopefully by tomorrow...

Yeah, I broke one of my stands not too long ago trying to get the speaker off of it. That blu-tack holds on like crazy.

Thanks Art! I have in my music room right now breaking in on low volume. Gonna match 'em up against the Sttafs and see how they fare.

The Studio 20's are a superb speaker David. Congrats man. What a collection of great speakers you have now. Totems, RS6's, Sierra's and now the Studio 20's.lol wicked.

So far I'm pretty impressed with them. Still breaking them in, of course. Been running them all day with Slayer and Machine Head (some of the best music to break in speakers to, BTW). The imaging seems as good as the Totems, but they sound just a tad more aggressive. Could be the music choice too, of course ;-)

It's surprising hard to find half decent speaker stands that are 24" here in Ottawa. The shortest I've found are 30", this puts them too high when I'm slouching on my couch in my listening room.

just imagine how hard it is to find a proper escort for the evening in that town.

Based on past experience (in the very distant past) it was much easier than finding a half decent speaker stand.

David, with all those speakers, you ever going to put together a 4 way speaker battle for us or what?lol. Enjoying the music is always more fun though.

Let us know how they sound after burn-in. The Studio 20's should be quite different from your Totems. I expect the aggressiveness is the initial "shoutiness" you get with new speakers. They'll soften up, but will likely be more forward than your Totems. They should also be very lively.

For sure Chris. I just spent an hour or so giving the Studio 20's a good listen (with glass of wine in hand). My initial impressions are pretty much what you said - the Studios are more forward that the Totems. I took some notes to compare the Studios with the Sttafs.

I'll post my impressions maybe tomorrow if I get a chance (have tickets to the World Juniors tomorrow). I know Nick - still have to give the RS6 a workout on the 2 channel rig. It's coming someday bro.

No answer Nuck. I take the fifth. Or whatever it is here in Canada.

Hey Dave,

Just picked up the thread. I'm still outta town.

A big congrats man. Yes, you do truly have an awesome array of speakers. Look forward to reading your review on how they compare to the Staffs but I also hear that stands can make a real difference in the sound. I don't think you'll be able to make a real could comparison until the Studios are broken-
in and you've got them on appropriate stands but anything you've gottem on is gotta be pure sweetness.

Wicked dude, I'm really happy for you. Hope you returned the favour to your wife.

Cheers.

Hey George,

Thanks! Yes, I definitely have to get better stands. Right now they're sitting on el-cheapo particle board stands I picked up used for 15 bucks. They still sound pretty good though.

I think I returned the favour nicely to my wife (I'll keep it G-rated here) - I bought her a new SLR for Christmas :-)

The 20's are black ash, and they look pretty cool with the grills off. Working on getting some photos up.

Cheers.
