Anonymous | I'm trying to find an AV reciever to connect to a home theatre PC setup. It would be ideal if it had some sort of remote programmability. That is I can have the computer do things like turn up/down the volume, switch modes etc. Basically I'm looking for an interface to control the reciever. The only thing I've found is an RS-232 port on some of the Marantz receivers. Mostly this looks to be used for firmware upgrades and the like, but I would find it difficult to beleive that there isn't inherently more functionality than that built in. Any suggestions? Places to look? |
G.DawG | The closest you are going to get is Logitech Z-680's I dont think there is a receiver that can do all that. Correct me if im wrong though :-] |
Derek | This http://www.harmankardon.com/back.asp?prod=AVR%207200&cat=REC&sType=C one, this http://www.sunfire.com/ultimatereceiver.htm#featured one, this http://www.usa.denon.com/catalog/photo.asp?s=home&p=AVR%2D5803&f=5803%5FRE+21302%2Ejpg&c=2 one and this http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=TX-DS989ver2&class=Receiver&p=i one has RS-232. Though RS-232 is bi-directional, most manufacturers are using them to control simple things like projector screens. According to this http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_10_3/show-report-cedia2003-page-1.html article, Extron and Crestron are about to make RS-232 do more. Hope this helps. |
Anonymous | Sweet. That helps quite a bit. I had all but given up hope. It still seems crazy that you can spend 2K on a good receiver, but they don't even have a network or web interface yet. |
