On a side note, the brand new Blose store opened about 15 minutes away from me. Made me want to yack thinking about what that may do to the 3 remaining enthusiast places in the albany area.

Best of luck man! It's a roller coaster ride for sure. Worth the price of admission.

And my sister is moving to Albany. Close to it anyway to a town called Troy. I never knew until recently that the city Troy is where the famous Troybuilt tractors were made. Who would've put 2 and 2 together lol?

"I never knew until recently that the city Troy is where the famous Troybuilt tractors were made."

Troy, NY is also the home of Uncle Sam. Yes, Uncle Sam was a real person. I thought everyone knew this until a girl I was dating in college saw the sign and was dumbfounded.

He didn't dress like he's depicted though.

it was a blast! Everything went off without a hitch...

And... I think that Bose is onto something. My DJ has the "new" L1 line array system. I haven't heard a PORTABLE PA sound so smooth, warm, and easy on the ears. The L1 uses many small drivers in a tall, thin enclosure, so they all work at much less than full capacity. Incidently, if you stand next to the thing because it isnt running at full tilt it doesnt blow your head off.

My steapdad (who has bad hearing and HATES loud music) was comfortably dancing right next to the speakers all night long.

Was this up to the level Diana Krall would use? hell no... But it sure is much better than the run of the mill crap than I have heard.

The wedding itself was beautiful, the reception was at the beardslee castle.

www.beardsleecastle.com

DJ Cap and his incredible setup kept the party jumping all night long.

www.imadj.com

That Bose setup totally floored me. I knew he had it, and was one of the reasons I looked into him. It is designed so it projects consistent and even sound coverage throughout a room, which had me intrigued.

I live about 15 mins from the troybilt factory. I toured it as a kid.

LOL nuck!!! Remember... I have always said that I like the pro products that bose puts out, and it sure was nice not to have el-cheapo horn loads drilling my ears out.

I have heard a solo guitarist using that Bose setup as well - good sound.

Congrats on the wedding Gavin. The setting looks great. My wife's cousin got married outside of Woodstock, NY up in the hills in the fall and it was really cool. String quartet, live jazz duo, and DJ. One of the best I've ever attended.

A big congrats to you Gavin and to your new bride. The venue is gorgeous - my wife approved as well.
I'll have to recommend to my friend who's into DJing to give the Bose system an audition. Interresting to know that they do know how to engineer some products.

As an aside, I have heard that Bose setup by a gentlemen in Rochester doing karaeoke, and it didn't sound so hot. Like anything, it needs to be set up properly to sound decent.

Properly set up, it will throw an awesome, large soundstage. Granted the highs are rolled off. But, in an environment like that I prefer the roll-off. It creates a smooth richness that is very easy on the ears at higher volumes.

Bass response was jaw dropping for 8 6.5 inch woofers. Solid to 40 or so Hz, and kept the room dancing all night long.

And it is very true that you can stand by the speakers and it wont tear your head off. Physics and speaker design play a part here.

Married??? Tomorrow??? I hope I am not too late.

DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Imagine losing half of your kit in the split-up, then not being able to afford quality gear for years due to the lawyer's fees.

DONT DO IT!!!! Buy a dog!!

let the wifey read that pat... she said that she will take the whole kit, not just half of it.

bad enough that she is throwing a fit about me taking the KEFs into the den in the new place (she loves them and wants them to stay in the living room). She may get her way on this... just means new speakers for me.

"Imagine losing half of your kit in the split-up, then not being able to afford quality gear for years due to the lawyer's fees. "

Spoken like someone either not or still married to wife #1.

Wives take the whole kit, not out of appreciation of what you labored and slaved over putting together to perfection.

It is because your kit is on the "A" list of things that most feel like castration whilst going through the proceedings of divorce.

Disclaimer: This of course does not apply to anyone out there whose wife appreciates your kit for what it does, for you......

for you lucky chaps, actual castration will suffice.

and staying on topic,

Nuck, between your ex and the market are you not feeling a little drawn and quartered ala Mel Gibson in Braveheart?

Freedom, ooooh, freedom
Thats what some people call it...

I got away with my kit Mike, only because I did so before she REALLY went certifiably nuts.
Nothing else from the house, however.

hilarious..... all in jest of course.

But yes your assumption is correct. NO rings on these fingers.

She hasn't convinced me yet.

Although she did whine when I suggested I set up a dedicated listening room in my basement.

"What am I supposed to listen to?" She said.

I responded with "The Yamaha and Energy's (the 5.1 setup).

She pointed to it and said, "I have to listen on THAT!?!?"

She likes the Naim gear.... I cant complain about that really.

MW, priceless! Nuck, I feel for ya man. Hope it works out OK for you.

My wife loves my kit because it gets me out of the TV room, and she's free to watch all that stuff I would never waste time on. My guitars and audio gear are our collective freedom. LOL.

Seriously, she's been a really good sport about me laying out some cash for a good audio system. Hopefully, we will never need to explore the flip side.

So, I'll close with the audiophile prayer: Hail to the man cave, and long live the dark dungeons where we thrive and tweak, greedily, loving what we hear but never quite satisfied with it. May our ability to discern improvements never outstrip our ability to implement them. And may we always be tolerant of others that cannot understand why we listen to same CD fifteen times in one week through three separate audio systems, or why we would spend one month's salary on a phono cartridge, only to trade it up for one twice as expensive one month later. And grace with tolerance our relatives and friends who will never understand what we are doing, or the utter joy with which we do it. Amen.

Cheers to all.

Neil, everyone knows that if you spent this month's pay on your phono cartridge you have to wait six weeks to trade up for the one twice as expensive as the dealer is only going to give 50% of what you paid for your now gently used one.

Except for your exaggeration on that point, the rest of your post is spot on and I could not agree more.

yup! Except for the fact that the wife just paid for my new integrated. We went, listened to it and she wanted it. We put it on layaway and made sure that they knew she would be back for it.

When we were auditioning it, she was remarking about the depth of imaging and spaciousness...

I am starting to rub off....

The kit in the den is fully marantz now (on the iQ3), and have all the pioneer elite in the living room on the TV, hooked up to the blose acoustmess

why does that friggin thing always come back to haunt me?

we are going to be looking for replacement speakers when we return from our honeymoon, which we are leaving on tonight (week on holland america ms. westerdam)

not a paramount priority right now, they just provide background music and TV sound for the most part, but they still gotta go!

I will be back sometime soon :-)
