Just wondering if these speakers are anygood with a HK avr 330 receiver.I just ordered these to replace my old Polk monitors as the fronts. The Polks will be my side surrounds and my old surrounds(Boston Acoustics) will be my rear surrounds in a 7.1 setup.

a few words I can think of - bad boy speakers, loud and unrefined, excellent party and club speakers, a little harsh, but efficient - based of course on my own experience. A lot of the younger demographic really love them, I was one of them. Your HK will sure drive them without batting an eyelash. It may drown out your BAs, shame on you for putting them in the back, tsk, tsk!

sorry, i was thinking they were bigger :-) I don't really know about having too much bass...you can always calibrate the output of the LFE with the HK. Experiment, calibrate have fun.

berny is right on with the cewrin vegas.

i've owned 2 sets.

very loud great hard rock speaker and the hk just
might tame them enough to be very good surround
speakers.

your action movies will probably sound better
than they ever had.

and don't worry about too much bass like berny
said it is all adjustable.

the only time you run into a problem is when you
don't have enough bass and their is nothing you
can do to get it.THAT HURTS!

Hooked up my new Cerwin Vegas & they sound good.I think I did pretty good for 269.00 a pair with free shipping. But I am wondering what the propper way to set up my side surround & back surround speakers is.Should the back surrounds be facing each other or out towards listening area? Also should the side surrounds face in or towards the front?I have seen diagrams of these setups both ways.Mike

MIKE THE WAY I HAVE MINE HOOKED UP.
and it sounds excelent.

the back 2 speakers are about 2.5 feet apart facing
the front and side "surrounds" are barely and i
mean barely behind you and all the way as far to
the side as you can go "within reason".

this way it creates a half circle starting just
behind you and to me works great, very engaging
and gives a very full sound starting almost from
the side of you on back.

for me this was the best setup i tried.

i can't think of much off the top of my head right now.

anyways dts es descrete is 6.1 dedicated channels

where dts es matrix and dolby digital ex are a
matrixed 6th channel.

so if you run 7 speakers you get the same info
on the back 2 channels.

the star wars movies are in ex i believe along
with some others.

and i have a few dts es descrete and they seem to
sound much better.

a few i have are.
the haunting:dts es descrete
stargate:dts es descrete
rush hour 2:dts es descrete

now awhile back i did a google search and found
a list of movies that showed es or ex movies i'm
not shure where but if you do a search you should
find it.

i think you can even get a list of dts stuff from
there website.

and with the ex or es movies you have to look very
close on the box because most are special additions
and are made in both 6.1 and 5.1 versions.

Cerwin Vegas are much better than people would lead you to believe. Vegas are under rated for sure. I've owned three older sets and all very good speakers. If you rock and roll you got the speakers. You will hear nothing but negative things about Vega's ,ignore it all . I listened to the negative hype for years probably from people who never even listened to a vega before. The new vegas are made by stanton magnetics now . Cerwin vega sold a year or two ago.

If I was to replace my center speaker with this system, what would you recommend for $200 or less(maybe on Ebay)? Are the Cerwin Vega centers good enough or should I go higher end.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

stick with the Cerwin Vegas, the center may get drowned out by the mains. You might find it difficult to compensate.

mike i havn't been in the market for cerwin vega
in a while now so i don't know there model's.

but i know in the past they had some rather nice
and larger centers.

i am a big proponent for the larger centers these
days as many movies and music send a fuller signal
to the center than they use to.

so if you could get one with say dual 6.5" midbass
drivers and a nice tweeter "or bigger" that is
what i would look for.

hope that helps!

absolutely, don't neglect the center unless you are a stereo purist. I would get the center from Cerwin Vega to match the mains.

I have an older cerwin CC-250 centre with my existing set up. I find that it lacks dialogue for home theatre. Fortunatly my dvd player has a dialogue enhancer that seems to take care of some of this problem. But it really shines for concert dvds if you are into music. Like I am.

No such thing as too much bass is right! I am currently running the centre, two infinity RS-5 fronts, E-208 cerwin vegas for rears and a Svs 20-39 pc +. Couldn't be happier.

The Cerwin centre channels have huge sound, but not as intelligible for HT. I like it, but it depends your plans for the use of your system.

I have the 715s front, 710 rears, and E76c center front&rear. I had to fabricate brackets to hold the mammoth rears, but it's been fun ever since. About a year later, I went a step further and got a sub system from Bag End with twin 18" subs, an infra-processor(flat to 8hz), and a Crown K1 amp. Now we're talking sweet bass!

I have a C-V LS-6c center channel speaker that I have been waiting to install in my new AV cabinet. Unfortunately, I didn't allow for wood thickness in my specs, and the 8" speaker case needs to go into a 7 3/16" opening.
It is not going to happen; I've tried everything.
I'm looking at either a RL-25c or a E75c.
Does anyone have any comparisons? The C-V site has only their newer stuff listed.
Thanks
PS - the LS-6c will soon be for sale. New without box; never hooked up.
