Centralized Amps

I hope this is the right group, if not, please send me on my way.

I am in the process of wiring a new home. I have not selected a system yet but I have two weeks to do an initial pre-wire for speakers throughout the home. I have a central location that I plan to bring all the wiring. The room is in the attic, lots of room and air conditioned.

I'm guessing there will be around 70 pre-wire speaker runs if you include all the bedrooms, dining, backyard, carport, garage, living, etc. This excludes the home theater which will be wired separately through conduits.

I want to install a multi-zone system, but most of the multi-zone systems I have seen have localized amps.

Questions:

* Are there multi-zone solutions that can be controlled either locally or remotely but have centralized amps?

* If so, any recommended names?

* Is a centralized wiring closet for a multi-zone system a good way to go?

Thanks,

Kevin

Home automation allows just about anything you can envision as long as your pockets are deep enough to carry out the plan. Place "home automation/whole house audio" in a search engine for more ideas. For such an installation you should be working with a decent dealer/installer. They should be able to guide your selection of products and the best choices for installation options. Use what they suggest to avoid conflicts should problems arise. You don't want one company pointing a finger at the other company and neither solving your problem. Whether you choose one central equipment location or multiple locations is up to your desires and how the installer advises you to proceed. There are always advantages and disadvantages to any plan. Pick whichever suits your needs best. You really haven't provided sufficient information for anything more than generalized replies. Any installer capable of managing such an install should be able to point you to past clients who will discuss their experience with the installer and the finished product.

Two full home automation brands to consider.

Crestron : www.crestron.com

Elan Home Systems : http://www.elanhomesystems.com/

Crestron use Sunfire amps and A/V receivers as they just bought Carvers company out. A friend of mine is a dealer of them, and said their stuff is amazing.

Elan is the poor mans Crestron, said to be the best bang for your dollar when it comes to home automation. They use their own amps and such, but im sure their rebadged, and are suppose to be very good as well.
