Nope, this is NOT a trick question. When auditioning home speakers, do you use reference audiophile recordings or old Janis Joplin type stuff? If you answered audiophile, your not giving the speakers a fair audition. You should listen to some really pathetic stuff. A truly great speaker will somehow make even "teeth grinding bad" recordings sound listenable. Sales people will never play you junk recordings, so you'll need to bring your own. Try it, it's very revealing. And a peck of fun watching the salesmans face.
