I've been looking at some HK's such as the 245 and 340. What other models (from different brands) should I look at? The front speakers are Wharfedale 9.2's. Unsure about rears and centers right now. Needs to be $400 or less. Thanks.

nvm im just gonna stick with my 2 channel...5 channel setup would be too expensive, and too much for the room.

I would personnally get the NAD 743 from Spearitsound.com It's $479.00 -refurbished and worth every penny. Their refurbished stuff is basically brand new. It will astonish you with great sound. Trust me on this. Check it out.

you might stretch your budget by reviewing H/K stuff on their factory refurb site

I own HK AVR 340 and am very pleased with it. I purchased this receiver without ever hearing it because I heard similar HK receivers in the past and liked the sound they produced.

Keep in mind that when it comes to a receiver what sounds good to me may not sound good to you.

The best advice that can be offered is to listen to a receiver before you purchase it, preferably with your speakers.

The H/K stereo receivers are quite good for the minimal outlay.
Dirt cheap.

NAD sounds better than the H/K stuff (IMO)

I saw the NAD at $419.00 on closeout at https://dmc-electronics.com/Default.htm
You cannot beat that price for such an amazing sounding unit. This would be a done deal if I were in the market for a receiver on a limited budget.

I, admittadly do not shop receivers, but a good H/K will run down a Nad.

Good race to be in.

no way. Maybe the 635 or the higher priced stuff from them against the 743, but I would put the 754, 763, 773 up against their entire line (less the Mark Levinson stuff) any day. And I believe their are a lot of people on this forum that would agree. I'm not naming names!!
Happy EASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
