(yes, this is a crosspost, i decided this was a more appropriate forum)

i recently purchased a pair of recently reconed realistic mach one speakers, and am now in the process of finding a good match for these

im open to used (obviously) and im not sure what type of source to go for (receiver etc.)

im assuming that a receiver is not my best option, and my current receiver, sadly, has no preouts other than for the subwoofer

also, the thought had ocurred to me that i could send a signal straight from the receiver to an amp, im really not sure about how that would work

im open to any suggestions at all

thanks a lot for any and all help!

ah! i thought of something that could help me.

if there are tape in/out jacks, do the out jacks function as preamp outs for 2 channels?

Maybe. Don't spend too much for them to sound good.

I think he's saying that no matter how much you spend they won't sound good.

Why are you asking about pre outs for your speakers?

i want to add an amp, because my receiver is not worth a damn

so youre tellng me these are garbage?

i looked around (apparently not on these boards) a fairly decent amount and these seemed to be very well received from what i have read..

ok, regardless of of the fact that apparently few approve of these speakers, would i need a preamp and an amp to power these acceptably?

here's what im thinking, tell me if im wrong:
tape out-->preamp-->amp-->speakers

im looking to spend 200(ish) to get an acceptable amount of wattage

anything would be great.

Luke I didn't say that they were garbage. I haven't heard them in alot of years.

There are alot of folks who are into vintage gear who love them. Maybe this link will help if not, Google your speakers and check out all of the info available on them. Enjoy!

BTW here's what I'm thinking...amp + source + speakers = music. I have no idea what you are talking about with the other configuration.

thats where a read a decent amount of my reading actually

ok here's what i want to do, ill try to be a little clearer

i have a below average receiver, and i want to connect the machs to it, but the problem is, these speakers are going to eat faaarr more juice than my htib speakers, so i want to add power somehow, and im not positive as to how i should go about doing it

here's my (probably not spectacular) thinking:

say im playing music or a movie, i generally fake surround sound in both applications (if the movie doesnt have it already), and i want to continue to use the whole system, but with the machs instead of the original fronts

so this is what i thought might be possible

connect an amp to the tape outs, then amp to speakers

the problem is, i dont know if this would work due to tape out not being the same thing that a preamp would output (but maybe it is?)(this would be best option for me, no preamp purchase)

alternatively, i would possibly have to go from the tape out to a preamp to an amp to the speakers

although, again, i dont know if this is how preamps/amps work, what normally goes into preamp? is a preamp equivalent to the inputs on the back of a receiver? can i use an amp w/o a preamp this way (straight from the tape out to amp)?

thanks

as for the garbage comment, it

You are going to need a new amp or receiver. I suggest looking on Audiogon for a used one. Your suggested configuration won't work.
