Any ideas for retro speakers for my new old setup?

Plus orange shap carpet and a lava lamp?

With the amount of various gear available, and the contacts that I have(so far), I might be able to swing a small business licence, and deduct my heating and electric bills.
Mike Wodek should be able to cough up some good stuff.

Right, Mike?

With a complete lack of WAF I have a ton of stuff I can offer up, like 3 DCM Time Window 3 Floor Standing speakers, 2 Monitor Audio Silver 8i' (which were going to be in my super HT system until I bought a house with an in wall Klipsch Reference System. Then there are all the electronics associated with this.

Speaking of retro turntables. I just installed a Sony Linear Tracking / Quartz Lock Direct Drive / Fully Automatic Turntable System PS - FL7II. I got it for free from a friend in Chicago who used it twice then boxed it up a number of years ago. I carried it home on a plane aboug 3 months ago and just did install it yesterday.

I undid the screws, pulled the pins, dropped on the platter, plugged in the Audio Technics cartridge and viola, music. I hooked it up in my new "C" system with my Rotel RCC-955, Fios Cable Box, Onkyo DV - SP404 DVD Player, PSB Subsonic 5i, Mirage Omnistat speakers, and (new) Marantz Receiver SR 4021. Video is a Samsung DLP - 50". Power management is a Costco bought Tripp - Lite battery back-up / line conditioner / voltage regulator all rolled into one.

This set up is just for entertaining in the family room or if the wife does not want to go upstairs into the media room. I had to throw enough into it just so she could get hissy about all the crap and frigin hand controllers taking over another room. But hey, the Omnistats are hidden behind the TV so she can't complain about seeing more speakers everywhere. :-)

Mike, you have a lot of stuff.
Like, a lot.
That TT is a mass market POA that can(and obviously does) deliver.
Good thing for all the closet space in the new house!
Mrs. Mike must love the preamp beside the toaster!

Timn8er, these are fabulous speakers, the best bar none.
Thanks for reminding me.

The new tubes are night and day.

Oh yeah, that. I'll be returning that to Sam's Club. I guess buying her audio / video gear for Christmas wasn't the most well thought out plan.

Mike, you like those omni's by Mirage? I love the outdoor speakers I got by Mirage (which are currently indoors but thats another story) and was impressed by some of their top of the line floorstanders but never have heard the omni's.

Never heard of them before, thanks for bringing them up.

The only speaker to pair with that gear are the original Advents. Still a very find sounding speaker!

Joseph C,

I really like the Omnistats. They do not provide a lot of bass so you should use them with a sub. Their strenghts are dispersion and accuracy. For a little speaker I am seriously pleased with their sound. I guess if I paid retail, ~$250 USD @, I would not be suprised by their performance. However I bought them on clearance at Tweeter for $69 @ USD. Outstanding speaker at that price.

Nuck,

A mitre saw might have won her over. She went to Home Depot and bought a 3 1/2 hp electic chain saw a couple of weeks ago and used it to clear out some of the forest we have in the back. I wish I was kidding.

I bought these B&W's, the seller promised that they are butt ugly without the covers, but in A1 running condition.

Ugly but accurate, just like me.

I dig!

Dude, without the grilles is the way to buy them. Now you can shop for retro grille cloth. I say yes to the shag btw. I remember working at Circuit City in the mid 90's and one of the guys I worked with always bragged about his DCM timeframes. We hooked them up to my old Fischer tube receiver in the break room when we wanted to hear "real sound" instead of The new laserdisc crap.
