Totem recommends to diagonally wire their speakers, one wire to either top post and one to either bottom post. I read a post here that the metal jumpers that connect the upper and lower posts should be replaced with wire. If so what are the advantages and what type of wire should be used?
K, use little jumpers made of your present speaker wire. Run the out + into the woofer +, then repeat for the -'ses. minuses You will know the difference right away. Don't change anything else, speaker position(at all) or listening position, or song.
Thanks Nuck, now let me see if I understand. Right now I have the + out from the avr to the top + post on the speaker and the - out to the lower - post on the speaker. So all I need to do now is replace the plates with my speaker wire?
I have mine the same way, I have read that by putting the neg from the amp to the top post (tweeter) first that you will have minute attenuation to the woofer and visa versa but I couldn't hear any difference.
I'm thinking of using different wire because the monster cable has very thick insulation around it. What about the ends of the wire, won't they corrode if they don't have connectors?
In my view, to replace the links you should EITHER:
use the speaker cable you're using currently
OR:
use Totem Tress which is the cable they use inside the speaker. But Tress ain't cheap.
If you stick to one of these you won't be introducing another cable presentation in the chain. That said, I haven't tried using higher quality different wire solutions, and there could be gains made that way.
