I am looking at putting together a surround sound stereo system for under 1000 and am looking at these two receivers to get started. Can anyone give me some help, and with the money left over what would be some good speakers...I've heard the Polk RM6880 with the Denon which sounded okay. The room will be average to small sized.

Justin, do you want a 5.1, SACD, H/T or dedicated stereo system? For a grand all around, that really matters.
A kickass stereo can be had for a really good price, and take what you get for movies.

That's what I do anyhow.

I am looking at a 5.1 or 6.1 Home theater. A change from my first question above, How about the pioneer VSX-1016 vs the Denon AVR-787. Is having HDMI really that important on your receiver? I am looking at hooking up a 6.1 system with one of these receivers. I will also use my PS3 as my DVD player for now since it has Blu-Ray and has video upscaling as well.

Justin, having HDMI is of zero importance to me. A and V should be kept seperate all of the time.
Your PS3 will function corectly, as will your DVD. The blu-ray is sales crap.
Seperate A and V will always work.

So which of the receivers would be a better buy to pair with:

Polk Audio
RM7302 center channel
RM6901 rear times 3 for 6.1 surround
RM40T Dual towers.

I have yet to pick a sub.

Also is the connections below the best quality I can get or is there an easier/better way;

Component video for HD cable to TV
(surround sound for regular television is not that important to me)

HDMI from PS3 to TV for picture

Optical Audio from PS3 to receiver for sound

Again for now I will be using my PS3 as my DVD player.
