Do i need a reciever?

New member Username: Viperdv2k4Post Number: 1 Registered: Nov-06 | hey im trying to hook up my electronic keyboard to 2 speakers that i have. The only inputs i have on the speakers are 2 holes, positive and negative. My brother hooks up these speakers tolisten to music etc using a reciever and copper wire. im wondering if i can directly connect the keyboard's 1/4 instrument jack directly into the speakers using some sort of converter without using an AV receiver? Thanks for the help!!  |

Silver Member Username: Daniel_canadaCanada Post Number: 215 Registered: May-06 | You need a receiver. You need to run fron the 1/4" on your KB to a pair of the RCAs on the back of the receiver. You can get a 1/4" to RCA anywhere. |

Platinum Member Username: Project6Post Number: 11667 Registered: Dec-03 | You need to go to a music supply store and get an amplifier for musical instruments, makes it easier to use the proper jacks that you currently have. Just say "no" frankenstein set-ups. Connecting directly to the speakers will not work unless your keyboard has an onboard amplifier for external speakers. |
