The problem started a couple of days ago. I get a loud pop sound from my subwoofer whenever I turn on the AV receiver, change the input source or DSP program. the other speakers are behaving normally.

I have the low level sub out on the revceiver connected to the BFD which in turn is connected to the subwoofer. I have already tried connecting the subwoofer directly (without BFD) and changing the cables. (fyi i am using a yamaha HTR-5750)

Any insights about what might be causing this problem will be helpful.

Thanks,
RT

BFD? You're kidding!

This sounds as if the muting circuit in your receiver might be faulty. Until the subwoofer's driver jumps out of the box, it's no BFD. Unless the receiver is still in warranty in which case I would get it serviced.
