Sorry for my ignorance on this guys my question is most of the receiver now (i think) has features like THX certified, DD, PL and etc. now if I want to add a seperates amp for the mains (L&R)and the rest from the receiver do I still get the features like surround modes while watching a DVD movie? or might as well get the 5 channel amps instead of 2 channels or mono amps? I think my question is so dumb but I wish someone give me an idea or info on this. Anyway, I'm still learning so please bear with me, Thanks!

Yes you can add an amp for the mains, and you will still get the surround channels for music PROVIDED your reciever has pre-outs for the channels.

This is not always the best solution to the problem of powering hard to drive speakers, especially if the speakers in the rear are of the same sensitivity as your mains, and are full range.

If this is the case, you would be better off with a 5 channel amp powering all your speakers all the way around.

But, the answer to your original question is yes
