I've recently upgraded my system and have added a Denon 2910 DVD player and a Yamaha VSX-1600 A/V reciever. Should my Denon DVD player sound better as a surround processor than my reciever? It seems to have a richer, fuller sound.

I have the 2910 paired with a Harman Kardon AVR430. After buying the 2910 I spent countless hours switching between the 6 channel direct and DVD mode of the HK trying to ascertain which sounds better.

Basically the 2910 sounds better for music, as that was what the 6 ch output was meant for - DVD-A and SACD. Musical passages in movies have a wider soundstage and a fuller sound.

BUT, you lose a lot of surround effects and vocals seem a lot more laid back. In effect the energy of a home theatre sound track is missing.

So I'd suggest 6 Ch Direct for Chicago, and DVD mode for Bad Boys 2.
