What else would you compare to the AS-B1's? At $99. are there any real competitors? How much more $$$ would you need to spend to get a comparable speaker?

You can look at the Cambridge Soundworks Model Six for $149 new, ~$99 B-stock. Another good budget speaker is the Paradigm Atom for ~$189 a pair new.

It seems the AS-B1's are on everyones "best-buy" list. Are they really all that? I'm very curious about them, at $99., is it worth buying a pair for the heck-of-it?

They obviously aren't perfect, but they are well made and sound pretty good, especially considering their price. Not to sound too cliche but you can't do much better at that price, and you can do a heck of a lot worse.

Potentially; there wouldn't be any harm in giving them a listen and returning them for a full refund if you don't like them.

Of course if you do like them, you might well end up in my situation, endlessly debating whether or not it is worth it to get the Studio 20's for an extra 500 smackers.

I'm in the same boat, I was spoiled by the Studio 20's. I would really like to compare the AS-B1's to the EPOS ELS-3's side-by-side, close my eyes, and listen.

With the ELS-3s costing 3 times more, I would *hope* they'd be significantly better.

Dunno, I'd jump at the chance to hear the Epos myself, haven't gotten around to going to their website and tracking down a local dealer yet.

Would make for a very interesting comparison with the Alegria Lings...

Bigger than 4.5 inches for me to consider owning them.
