I've been looking for an unpowered sub that can be purchased by itself. The room is 15'x30'. It will be powered by a 300W amp. I'm looking to spend ~$300 on the sub.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jim

I'd look at http://www.soundsplinter.com/rlp_premium_series_12_and_15_inch_subwoofer.html
I haven't heard them, but if you do some searching around forums I've seen nothing but excellent reviews for them. 300 watts would easily power them, but the could also handle a lot more.

And who would make cabinets for these things? I'm not afraid of a kit, but I sure as h*ll am not a cabinet maker!

The first thing that came to my mind was to check www.partsexpress.com They have basically anything you'd need for building your own speakers. http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?webpage_id=3&SO=2&&DID=7&CATID=48&Object Group_ID=535 Here is a link directly to their prebuilt subwoofer enclosures.

If you decide to go with the RLP12, I'd suggest the 2 cu foot box. With that you should get extention down to 27 hz with no EQing.

Hope this helps.
