I know monster cable makes good ones but I dont have that kinda money. Are the Acoustic Research ones sold at Best Buy any good? I have a crappy Radio Shack one now.

Try bluejeanscables.com, very resonable. Also, try audioadvisor.com for their highly discounted prices on Audioquest sub cables. I have purchased both. The bluejeanes cables are black and are a little easier to lay down flat. The Audioquest have better, tighter connectors.
