I can buy a new Marantz SR5300 for the price of a SR4400, being the SR5400 too expensive.

How does the SR5300 stand to the othes for both CD Stereo and 5.1 Audio and Video Sound quality?
Or even 5.0...!

No need for 6.1...

At that price point the SR5300 is good value. But more info is needed.

What speakers you are using?
What impedence are they?
How big is your room as to power needed?

Marantz has a warm wonderful sound with the right combinations but have an audtion if you can for the sake of your own tatse.

Will the receiver combine with Monito Audio Bronze, Mission or B&W sound?

I prefer 5.0 for surround sound.

And a DV6400 player for example.

I have a Denosn D-100 system that I love, and will only trade to a better sounding system.

All same brand except speakers, english or canadian ones.

Never heard the D-100 but other Denon receivers sound a bit bright and dry for me. Others may have a different view. B&W should work well. Haven't heard Mission for 15 years and MA bronze I have not heard but from reading other posts I think would work also.

I have the SR7300 and think it's great. Not having listened to the 5300 I can only guess that it has that warm open Marantz sound. But I'll repeat, it's your ears you have to satisfy.

I don't like much bright sound, that's why I like Denon, but Marantz can be warmer...

My Denon system had bright speakers, soon traded bay warmer Celestion 3mkII

I had heard the Marantz 5400 with B&W DM 300 series, and it was excellent. Should be even better if you step up to the 600 series.

My brother-in-law has a Sony DVD/SACD + Receiver with B&W 600 surround speakers.

I must hear them (even with Sony japanese sound electronics)
