Vintage Technics SL-1800 Speed Problem

Hi, I love my old Technics SL-1800 but it's got a bit of a hard time keeping tempo. I can get it to stay at 33rpm if I fiddle with the 33 pot for some time, but if I want to change the tempo at all, it instantly gets all screwy and is hard to get back to 33rpm.

I'm considering trying to clean the 33rpm pot somehow (I've given up on replacing it at this point, the part being so old and what have you.) I'm wondering if there are any suggestions as to what product to use to clean the pot or other possible fixes for this speed control problem.

I'm real handy with a soldering iron so if need be I can replace circuit board parts.

Any help would be great, thanks

Go to Radio Shack and get a can of "Tuner Cleaner". Then spray some into the speed control pot and work it back and forth several times repeating the process a few times. That should cure your problem.
