I'm about to pull the trigger on a new home theater system for my rec room. My choice (unless I hear otherwise) is DefTech Mythos four fronts, Mythos three center Gems surround with SUupercube II sub, Marantz SR 7500, Mits 62725 DLP. I breifly considered the Denon 3805 or Yamaha 2500. Is this a good choice?
Instead of the Marantz sr7500, go to ubid.com and bid on one of the 241 Marantz 8400s they're auctioning off with full Marantz warranty. Should end up going for around $400-600 which is a freakin' steal for a MSRP $1300 receiver.
Not personally familiar with DefTech speakers, but you might want to compare prices with the Ascend Acoustics speakers which are Internet-direct with 30 day refund policy. Google them up and read all the rave reviews.
With the sub I'd look into Hsu and SVS, these are also Internet direct and sub specialists, also with legendary bang for your buck.
I'd avoid the little 'mini' subs at all costs. Regardless of the incredible claims they might make, a little 38lb sub will leave you wanting much, much more.
I guess if 'mini' HT-sound is what you're into, a little petite sub will be a perfect match. Either that, or if your HT is setup in a room the size of a walk-in closet.
No to jump down your throat Paul but have you actually demoed the Supercube yourself at home? Don't slam a product if you have no personal experience with it.
If you had the sub and it left a bad taste in your mouth, then share the experience but to offer off hand remarks helps no one.
