i'm wondering if i should be using multichannel or the digital optical to play dvd audio. for example, i have the Hotel California dvd and the only way i can get the option to use the DTS or Dolby Digital is to go into the home menu and select "dvd video". otherwise, i only get option for stereo. i can switch to multichannel and it plays in 5.1 like a SACD. is there a way to make it so it will automatically play a DTS or DD track when i insert the disc?

When you pass DVD-A to digital out, player downsamples it to 48 KHz/24 bits stereo PCM. To get multi-channel DVD-A, you should use the 5.1 analogue interconnect. And trust my word, the DVD-A version of Hotel California is quite an experience.

Happy listening
