Well, this week my HTR5790 arrived, replacing my 10+ yrs old DSP-A1000 Yamaha integrated amp. I miss the more flexible sound fields in the DSP-A1000!. But now I read here about the wimpy REAL power capabilites of the 5790, (sniff, its too late). I have on a back shelf an old Yamaha A-1000 class A amp with about a 100 watts a side. What about augmenting the 5790 by running the mains out to the A-1000, leaving the 5790's power to the other channels?

Sounds like a good idea. The old Yamaha's of the A-1000 vintage blow their current stuff away. Yamaha's do very well in 2 channel mode but not so well in multichannel mode. How much power is really needed is a subject for debate and has been on this forum and others but what you suggest is a good idea especially for 2 channel music listening.
