I was wondering if the thickness of the speaker box would affect the sound quality of the subs? I know the ideal size is 3/4" but i was wondering if anybody has experienced w/ 5/8 and 1/2" possibly? The thing is i'm trying to limit the weight of the box as possible.

you want the box to flex as little as possible, to avoid wasted energy/inefficiency.
5/8" can work for tens or sometimes twelves if the box is vented. for fifteens you need at least 3/4" and you need to cross-brace the enclosure to reinforce it to prevent flexing.
weight is good.
the heavier the box, the less liekly it is to resonate.
My home audio mains weight 110lbs a piece, and my other set weigh 72lbs each.
both sets are very high end, and neither resonate at all even at high volume. I can turn them up till my ears hurt, and stand a nickel on it's edge atop the speaker cabinets, and the nickel won't so much as quiver. That's a quality cabinet.
I build my speaker boxes to similar standards.
