I have a 1996 VW Passat TDI with factory components that are toast. I have looked around on the internet, read reviews on this forum, and listened to some brands in stores. I have read that some components (Dynaudio, Focal, etc) sound better if the tweeter is mounted near the woofer; in my car the woofer is in the door and the tweeter is in the dash. I would rather replace the speakers in the door and dash and not relocate the tweeter and woofer. Any ideas on what brands would complement my set up? I am looking to spend ~$250 on speakers. Thanks
I hate to say it, but factory tweeter locations suck. You best bet is to move the tweeter closer to the mid range. Check out Boston accoustic. Their components come with a bracket to install the tweeter directly in front of the mid. Might not sound as good as it would if you played with the tweeter and found the best spot for it (which I always suggest), but it will be better than the factory location.
