I just bought a cerwin-vega XL-15D 15" subwoofer from a friend and havnt hooked it up yet, when presed down, it makes scratching/grinding noises and Im pretty sure its not a good thing, is it just on its way to being fried or already there? Is there a way I can fix it?
Info on it is:
Dual voice coil, 150 watts per coil
Impedence: 4 ohm
Sensitivity 98dB 1w/1m

Also, if anyone has blueprints for a folded horn type subwoofer box Id be extremely greatful for them

Sounds like a voice coil is bad. Be very careful if you try it out, if you do, do so with an amp with protection against shorting out.

Ah well, I figured as much, I guess I cant get too mad about it cause i got a perfectly good 1200 watt kenwood amp for $125 and 2 kicker solo baric 10" subs for $25 in the same deal.
I looked at cerwin vega's site a bit earlier and I saw that they have some sort of thing where theyll repair their 15" subs for $60... perhaps Ill check that out. Thank you very much.
