i know that its not good to have your bass boost turned all the way up, but the only way that my speaker moves is if my bass boost is all the way up. i have a mtx801d with a jl w6v2 12in. am i going to damage my speaker having my bass boost turned up so much?

set gains properly.
if you still need the bass boost up that far, you need a stronger amp.
I'm not sure what the load is for your setup. how much power are you giving that sub?

well i have it hooked up in parallel so the sub's getting about 500 watts. the amp is running off of a stock hu. does that make a big difference?

it overdrives the amp and causes clipping
this in turn causes distortion
that causes speaker damage
