High/low-pass filters - should I use the amp switches?

Hi, hope someone can help! I'm pretty new to all this. I've just bought this Clarion APA 4360 4-channel amp, hopefully get it installed next week:

It's got built-in HPF/LPF switches for each pair of channels, pretty cool - my question is, should I use these switches? What's the point, my understanding is that the passive crossovers for each mid-range/tweeter pair does this job anyway (limiting the frequency range fed to the speakers)?

Also, I might be amping the front speakers by themselves til I sort out a sub. Is it safe to feed the speakers the full frequency range until then?

Thanks!
