Wondering if I will need to do anything but hook up an RCA cable from the SW out on my head unit to a stand alone single sub in a box like this one, http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_16942_Sony+XS-LE121W.html Or do i need an amp etc...

you need an amp..
all the rca does is send the signal to the amp so the amp knows what to play for music.
if your looking for a cheap stereo your best bet is craigslist or ebay

For someone who has almost a thousand posts, its odd to see them type in all caps.

@perfectcircle I'm going to guess you did not install your system or you have a bad memory. How would you attach an RCA directly to the sub?...

BTW nice choice of music- A Perfect Circle is one of my favorite bands

Yea, you'll need an amp & wiring.

For that sub I'd recommend an extra (non deep cycle) battery, 2 runs of 1/0ga. wire and a couple .5 farad capacitors minimum.

Also maybe a smaller enclosure with a port (for SQ), in the future.

I love the perfect circle and tool. I just meant touching the binding posts with the rca's. or splicing off the ends of the rca's and wiring them like speaker wire. I assume you would. very low volume though. Not really curious enough to try it though.
