are you going to be using a slot or aero/straight port?

Port length calculator:
http://www.mobileinformationlabs.com/HowTo-1Woofer-Box-CAL%20Port%20lenth%201.ht m

Box Calculator (to help understand the principals):

http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html

those should help, but you may end up having to make a new box that is larger to factor in the volume displacement of the port and ported boxes need more volume than a sealed box

16 in sq per foot. 1.8 x 16 =28.8.
so make your port 28.8 sq inches on the surface. i like to go a little narrower for low rumble.the narrower you go the more it will act like a big sealed box. and for the length, go from 18 to 23 inches on up. the longer the lower. ide start at around 22.

In no way will that ever sound "great"

You obviously didn't take the time to look at any of the links posted to calculate port length. All you have there is a box with a huge air leak in it. No tuning at all.

if there is nothing going down inside the surface well then all u really did was made nice neat looking hole on a side of ur box - u need to tune that

check those links posted above ...

No no. You need an actual "port" like other people have mentioned, not just a cut-out. What's the size of the opening you create? Should look something like this:

Aero would have been much easier. You got some work ahead of you now to save the box. IMO you'll wind up making a port and attaching it from inside the box now. Correct length of course.

You'd be way better off making a new box... besides the problem you just created, ported boxes have to be larger than sealed to meet the subs specs

If you wanted to keep the enclosure, i would just use an aero but space looks to be tight anyway in that box..

Well if its just for fun then plug that hole and install an aero.

Install a piece of MDF on the inside at least 1" larger on all sides. Glue the #$!@ out of it. Then from the top drop the piece you cut out back in and glue as well. Looks like you'd have room in the front corners for an aero.

Have at it. Good thing about aero ports is that they can be easily recycled into another project.

If you're worried about the ugly azz plug left behind cover it with a car audio patch or sticker.

i know how im going to sorta fix the one box with the big slot in, it i got
the port length off the wed sites above. So im going to get longer screws and some really good wood glue and attach the port from the inside. it sould be ok yeah?}
