So my head unit, I think just went out. It is intermintent humming like a feed back through my amps. So which head units are the best... I have an alpine 9856 right now. It only has 2v preouts and I want to step it up to at least 4v, I am looking at alpines 9887, or pioneer deh-p800. Suggestions on these or any others I should check out? Thanks for the imput.

Find out whats bad first, it could be your amp. Could also be a blown RCA ground in the HU, if thats the case you can fix it by grounding the outer ring of the rcas to the metal on the HU. example:

Well if you want a new HU anyway look at the 9886... may be a better deal if you dont need the advanced tuning features... of the 9887 is also great.

JVC has a full featured unit out that i am looking at for myself the KD-R900 it has built in interface for nearly all ipods and built in bluetooth for cell phones, along with all the other bells and whistles for about $200 on ebay

Pigs will fly before you ever hear a difference from that preamp voltage
