I hooked up the 300/4 today and wow is it loud. I set the gains to 17.3 volts according to the manual but they need to be turned down. I'm curious on how to adjust the gain when it comes to turning it down. I'm guessing doing it by ear isn't the best idea. I was thinking doing 10% decreases at a time. So increments of 1.7 volts. Does this sound like a good idea? Are there better ways of doing this?

If it's just too loud for your taste then there is no mathematical solution lol.

just set it by ear. you cant physically hurt anything by turning down the gain.

Exactly, the gain setting method is for getting the max power without clipping.... you can turn it down to any level lower to balance with the rest oft he system or whatever.
