Alright, I'm looking 4 a good SPL sub 2 put in a '97 Cadillac DeVille. (Want to retain somewhat decent SQ, but geared more toward SPL, not SQL, I'm willing to use as much trunk space as necessary) and I think I'm between;

RE Audio SX18
AQ HDC318
Fi BL18

Question is, which is best 4 the money? As you can see I'm tryin' to keep it under $400 - $450

Suggestions not on this list are welcomed. Thanks.

how much power r u putting to it?
the AQ is best for ur money imo,
but it is made to handle a lot more power than the others
i would pick the BL if ur running around 1000 watts. if ur using 2k or if ur hard on stuff get the AQ

I'm currently using a Crossfire VR1000D I bought like 7yrs. ago (1000w @ 1ohm) that I'll be using at first but shortly thereafter I'm thinking of upgrading to an AQ2200D (which will be separate from the $400 for the sub).

Also, should the stock 140A alt. be able to handle the potential output of a AQ2200D? (I realize I'll likely get serious light dimming at high volumes & I'll eventually upgrade, just wondering if it'll be alright at first or if when I get that amp I should plan on getting an alt. too).

Gotcha. I'll get that alt. just 2 be safe.

What amperage alt. should I be looking at, if say I run an AQ2200D with an AQ HDC318? I'd like some headroom with the alt. too.

200-250 amp alt

look at Ohio Gen and DB they have nothing but good rep!

upgread your hood batt and add a batcap in the back maybe, run of 1/0 power wire, and Big 3 and you will be good

"anything over 1,500 needs an HO alt! "

I disagree with the word NEED, but a H.O. alt would be ideal with an upgraded battery under the hood for daily driving. was it nick v who ran a 3250 with stock ~90a alt with 2 batts daily?

"upgrade your hood batt"

is that like a hood rat with wings like a bat?

"and add a batcap in the back maybe"

why a batcap? would likely be useless with a h.o alt and good battery up front.

it says maybe for the batcap?
and HO would be ideal and prb needed if hes new and don't know to set his gain right unlike timmy

and i didn't know hood rats could have wings?

Voltz X amps = watts. Do the math and you'll see what your alt can produce. Minus a conservative amount for normal electrical demand and you'll get in the ball park of the alt you'll need for your system. Never hurts to go bigger than needed so don't pinch your pennies there.

Buying an alt is like buying real estate. Buy as much as you can afford for future growth/expansion.

I've been looking at a few different alternator web sites, and haven't really found one that sells an alt. for a '97 DeVille. Does that mean anything, or can most reputable places make me one regardless of whether or not the vehicle is listed on their site?

Cool. Will do.

Is a 300a alt. going overboard, in case I wanna add an additional amp in the future, or will that cost mega bucks (over $400-$500)?

300 amp alternator would be great but you better watch the idle amperage on that... if they don't tell you that means it ain't good...
