Anyone here have a good knowledge about computers? I have no idea what specs i should be looking at and what not. looking for a laptop or desktop doesn't really matter for around $600.

found these
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=12347221
really cheap with a high processor speed,6gb ram and a big hard drive. Wondering if anyone knows anything about the brand..

also this laptop

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated

What do you plan on doing with this computer? That will help anyone and everyone decide what is a good setup for you.

By the way, your Best Buy link didn't work for me and good job posting a budget, that helps a lot.

By the way, since I'm sure Brad will take a look at this thread, the Seagate drives never stopped failing even after all the fixes Seagate did =/ We had our b1tch battle about them back in the day and there are still too many failures being reported about them despite all the patches/firmware updates and all the other BS. The only good thing is that they're some of the cheapest drives with mass storage but at a risk(I don't trust any hard drive 100% though, they all have issues).

Thanks for the help so far.
The main thing this computer will be used for would be internet access and stuff. But may occasionally be used for gaming.

here's the laptop again copy and paste for some reason it won't work if you click it.... ???

i would suggest steering clear from that e-machines up there,

what i would do is check out this portion of the dell website

http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/desktops/desktop-inspiron-546/pd.aspx?refid=deskt op-inspiron-546&s=dhs&cs=19

you can customize it to fit your preferences

i ran through it really quick and upgraded the processor, ram, hard drive, graphics card to match (actually a bit better) that e-machines you were looking at and it was only $100 more

you really do get what you pay for and that dell is very solid for its price

1 last question kinda off-topic as well. Was looking at HDTV to buy from eBay. Could you guys rate these brands?
Samsung, philips, sony, sharp, and westinghouse.

IMO, don't waste your time with Westinghouse. Phillips is so-so, but not too bad for the $. As for Sony, Samsung, and Sharp they all make really good and fairly good TV's depending on which line u choose. I'm assuming you're wanting to go LCD over plasma (you'll have a larger selection that way anyway). Assuming you won't be watching a lot of fast paced, quick moving action type stuff LCD is fine. If you do plan on that stuff then just make sure if you go LCD you go higher end. i.e. 120hz or above and 1080p for screen size above 37" or so. If you're on a budget I would consider Plasma for 42" & up. There's more to it but those are pretty much the basics.

Anyway, don't know if that answered your question, but I would also seriously consider Panasonic too.

Also, what screen size are you thinking?

I know sam's club has a 40" samsung 1080p 120 Hz tv for $898. I don't think you can find one online for cheaper. The picture quality is amazing.

EVERYTHING in consumer electronics comes down in price. You just have to decide how long you're willing to wait for it.

I remember when portable DVD players came out. I wanted one soooo bad but the wifey just wasn't having it. I remember one guy trying to sell one to me used for $750! Only a 10" screen too. Today they're under a C-note. My first component DVD player was $300. RCA. State of the art back then. Remote had 8 buttons? Now you see them for $30?

It's the "gotta have it now" mentality and spending habits that generate the pricing structure.

Have to admit though Mark. That IS a great price for that tv. If only I needed one................
