its like a double layered mdf usually 1.5" where the subwoofer houses itself


holds bigger heavier subs way better and stronger, and less box flex

The mounting surface you attach the woofer(s) to. That surface is susceptible to excessive vibration/weakness of the box. Doubling the thickness helps to eliminate it.

in addition to strength benefits if u counter sink ur sub , the double baffle makes ur box look better\neater too ...

When you build the box you design it so the mounting surface is flush with the frame of the sub. Looks cool as chit. A double baffle helps with the design.


^^^That is not a double baffle but a recessed design.

well imo doing a recessed look is technically added "a 2nd baffle" only real difference is the sub is screwed onto 1 layer of wood instead of 2 ..
