Hi,

I'm getting 2 12"alpine type r 1222D's and I have a 2000 ford crown vic and I was looking at different types of enclosures and I found some down firing enclosures and thought they were pretty cool. what do you guys think about them? I think I heard that they hit harder then regular style enclosures. heres a few pics of one in a bmw (its sealed i think, but if i built one it would be ported)

As far as how hard a down firing sub is compared to front or up firing is quite easily tested in your setup. Just flip the box over and compare. Being in the trunk will dampen any difference anyway. Without grills the down firing is by far the safest on the subs. Everyone with soccer cleats and other gear they love to toss in the back of their ride and all. It gets easy to forget they're back there. Before you know it you have a torn surround or punctured cone and you don't know why.
