I know next to nothing about car audio except for what my friend has told me and what little knowledge I've been able to scrape up from different forums and stuff. I'd like to keep it around $500-$700 give or take. I have a 2000 Ford Crown Vic and I'm going to be keeping the stock rear deck speakers and I'm getting a head unit (1 DIN), front door speakers (5x7 or 6x8) and 2 12 inch subs. My friend has 2 kenwood 12's (KFC-w3012) and an Alpine MRP-M500 amp. I was impressed with what I heard so I would like to get the same kenwood subs and I think I want the same amp. I listen to rap and classical (weird combo, i know lol) so i would like it to be "surround" sound, but idk what amp would do that best because I get confused with the mono, 2-channel, multi channel amp stuff. Here's what I'm looking at getting as of now: Head unit: Kenwood Excelon KDC-X493: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=21310 Subs: Kenwood KFC-W3012: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=21351 Door Speakers: either Infinity Kappa 682.9cf or Infinity Reference 6822cf: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=19643 or http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18369 I dont know what kind of amp I should get though. would the head unit be able to power my speakers while the alpine amp powers my subs? If so how would they perform? Or should I get a 4-channel amp and have 2 channels powering the front speakers while the other 2 power the subs and have my head unit power my rear speakers. I THINK that's possible, but I'm not sure. So is that a good system? If not, what components would you suggest? I'm open to anything and I have no biases towards different manufactures. sorry for all the questions and stuff, but this is my first system ![]() Thanks |

This is the best I could do trying to stay under your budget but I dont even know what it adds up to + you need a box and wiring. Maybe you could this as a guideline to see how much you're looking at for what you want and learn (much) better brands to choose from. This is like the absolute entry level rig for me, I don't think I could go any lower in budget. But, it will also sound pretty damn good. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11104_Pioneer+Premier+DEH-P400UB.html http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_10497_DLS+Classic+C6A.html http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4966_Scosche+SA68.html http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17983_Orion+Cobalt+CO6004+-2009+Model-.html http://www.audioque.com/aq/AQamps.htm http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4243_Alpine+SWR-1222D+-TYPE+R-.html |

I will probably be installing the door speakers myself, is it pretty easy? but everything else will be installed by a professional. what rms should the subs be set to and what ohm? thanks |

Gold Member Username: Dustin3D&L Audio Tech.Dustin Post Number: 4957 Registered: Oct-05 | what you could do would be to get 2 of the type r's (subs) then get the aq1200 amp. for the price of 2 r's you could get a louder sub. are you looking more for the sub being loud? (spl) or having more sound quality (sq) |
New member Username: JoemacgamesSt. Petersurg, FL United States Post Number: 4 Registered: Jul-09 | There are some local car audio shops that I was going to check out. How hard is it to run the wires for the amp and stuff? I'd realy like to be able to do it myself though I'm looking for a good balance between quality and it being loud. could I just go with a mono sub for the subs and let the HU power my speakers for now and then later on get a 2nd amp for my speakers? |
Gold Member Username: Dustin3D&L Audio Tech.Dustin Post Number: 4959 Registered: Oct-05 | yes, its very easy to run everything (wires and all, to and from your amp) just search google on how to install an amp and you will come up with many sites that help out. Also try out www.bcae1.com. we could always help you out here if you get stuck anyway. there is no such thing as mono sub, you must have meant mono amp. but yea, you could do that but IF you were to do that, i would make sure you get that second amp because HU power point do too much.. |
