Is it possible to have an alternator thats too big ?

Ever since I changed my alternator to a bigger one my system doesnt sound as good and the amp keeps shutting off at high volume. Is it possible that my alternator is too big and if so is there a solution or do I have to go back to the old alternator? Ive gotten some answers but none about if the alternator is too big.
no. its not too big. it however may still be too small, or it may not be putting out what you think. have it checked at an auto parts store with an alternator and battery tester. get both checked. also make sure the alternator is using the proper gauge power cables.
