i dont really know anything about systems or car audio, but im looking into some subs. i dont want just pure noise and loudness, id like some sound quality aswell. i have a buick regal if it matters and it came with a 180watt JVC deck. Im looking to spend under $400 total(subs,box,amp,etc./ i dont even really know what all i need), if thats even possible. im interested on any feedback, recomendations, or anything of that matter. Thanks a lot.

ok for starters....a great head unit will cost $400 alone so maybe could you up your budget to say $600 and we can work with that easier

ok for head unit, i'd go with a lower end/mid lvl clarion - http://www.cardomain.com/shoplist~b~Clarion~t~CD+Players both are decent head units but i'd reccomend the DXZ445 if u wanna spend the extra $40

sub(s) - a 15 inch elemental designs K.v2 would be awesome, put it in a large sealed box with a BP600.1 powering it and you would be good to go

-$170 head unit
-$100+shipping sub http://www.edesignaudio.com/kv2.htm
-$200 amp http://www.cardomain.com/item/JBLBP6001

gives us about $100 for speakers, so lets get some good ones in the front - try some infinity reference speakers http://www.cardomain.com/shoplist~b~Infinity~t~2-Way+Speakers - about $100 for a pair at circuit city

the elemental designs sub you can purchase only online at www.edesignaudio.com and it's a pre-production sale so they wont be shipped til july 1 but hell i'd wait for it...amp at www.sounddomain.com and head unit at www.sounddomain.com

I wouldnt bother with a Head Unit, i think its not nessasary for somebody on a strict budget. Get your self some good quality subs and a good AMP. I would look into some Rockford's or Kickers. And a good RF AMP. I found some things on Ebay now the AMP is a Refurb but there just as good and the sub is just one but its 400W RMS, dont worry that sh*t will pound hard (i have one) plus it has a box. Then all you need is wires.

Oh yeah, Speakers are not nessasary yet! Once you got the sub in than just turn the dial on the deck for treble all the way up. So now you sub is playing bass and the stock speakers are just used for treble. Works well.

dont listen to this crack pot...

stock speakers will die within 5 seconds of handling an aftermarket HU

and RF subs are fair to say the most, and RF amps are too expensive to be considered budget

just go with my suggestion, you seriously CANNOT go wrong there

btw, get the dual 4 ohm 15 kv.2 it'll be easier on the amp although it puts out 600w rms at 2 or 1 ohm

seriously though, i cannot name off a better setup for less than that

dont go with a 15 inch sub for sound quality, the larger the sub, the less responsive the bass, (but you do get a deeper sound and more feel in the chest). Rapid bass notes can become muddled on a 15 inch sub, tens are tight and cleaner, but the sound is higher pitched, I would suggest a 12

You dont need a new headunit if you go off the back speakers directly into an amp via a line converter, so for $400, suggest build own box (SEALED IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING),

Then you need maybe an 12" HE (fosgate) off of a small alpine monoblock, suggest the 700D

Yeah, that box is pretty bad. I'd take a Q-logic box before that one. Building your own is MUCH cheaper, shouldn't be more than 30 bucks, more if you don't have screws, glue, caulk, etc. sitting in your shop (if you have one) Then of course you may want to spend a couple bucks to carpet it. The quality of Rockford really has dropped a LOT since they went retail at Best Buy, their early 90's stuff was MUCH better. Go with Bacons setup, he knows what he's talking about. Kv.2's are awesome. Always put a good set of components in your future plans if you're doing upgrades. Subs only cover from 20-100 hz, stock speakers usually only go to a very screechy sounding 5k, while components will sound smooth from 100 to 16-20+khz, usually with more dynamic midbass and everything above is miles ahead.
