But I have seen quite a few people kill them. The 1600wrms rating on Brahma's really set that off, they really only needed ~1000-1200wrms of clean power and sounded amazing. Adire did have some glue troubles at one time though. I have only delt w/ XXX's and Brahma's though. Both gave me far above expected results. They just didn't need 1600wrms all the time. I have heard that some other XBL2 subs that have come out are crap though. |

I'm running the 04/05 XXX .. no telling how long it has been used since I bought it used but I've got no issues with it. In all reality if you do not know what your doing you will blow any sub/amp no matter what type of technology it used, eventually :P |

But as Kevin mentioned, the later models were fragile. XBL2 is a love it or hate it sound. The motor design is not the best for super high power installs from what I have learned. Also, many of people describe the sound as dry and lifeless, where some love that non-localizeable sound, others don't. Many car audio people prefer subs that have certain low levels of natural distortion due to their design. These drivers give a fuller sound to the ear in most cases. But keep in mind there are a bunch of different motor technologies and they all have their positives and negatives. Personally, I am not a fan of the XBL2 sound, at least from the many different Brahma/XXX/Adire'esq installs. |

Post Number: 6371 Registered: Mar-04 | I have heard people talk about that 'dry' sound from XBL2, but I loved my Brahma MKII 10". 1.6cuft tuned to 35hz on a JBL bp1200.1 and it was golden. Very flat response. And yes, it was hard to really tell where the sub was located. I never had a single person say my Brahma sounded 'dry'. I do admit though, on some songs it was almost too clean and clear. It sounded like a drum set in the back of my truck. I've heard a few Brahma setups that did sound strange though. I guess it was in the install/vehicle though. I understand that love/hate the sound thing though. Some people love how L7's sound, I hate it  All in the person's ear and mind I guess. |
