Yes, removing the violet piece will change the tuning drastically.

Shortening it will make the tuning go up (Boom Box). I would add to it and make the tuning 32

Shortening it will also mess up tuning. Any modifications to the port length or size will take your tuning out of wack.

well u can shorten it but tuning will go up but i guess u cant help it since u already cut the wood

so just retype a higher tuning on the calculator to see what u get since u may need to retrim a few pieces of wood .....i done it b4 ....

How much does the back of the sub hit the port? Maybe add another baffle or two on the front to pull the sub away from the port?

How about inverting the sub? Do you have room for that?

no dude its not as simple as trimming off a measly 3" ...when u do that it also alters the cuft & tuning of the entire box which may aslo affects its shape

but in this case ur lucky since u only need to trim & widen the port a bit

http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/ported-box.asp?Ew=35&Eh=20&Dia=9&Xmax=21&Vd= 0.17&NumW=1&Vb=3.5&Fb=37.5&Qts=&Vas=&Fs=&CE=0

note now the port is 4" wide ...up from 3.75" ...new tuning 37.5hz to give u that needed clearance .....

Yeah I would've assumed the sub to be mounted on the red side anyway.
