I have extra 10 gauge power wire from my last install. The amp i am looking at requires 8 gauge i believe. My question is if I can run 2 power wires(10 gauge) from my battery to this amp and it will be ok, or do i need to get bigger wire and run only one wire to it. The amp im looking at is

Im not asking for specifically this amp either, im just wondering in general.

If it was me I would use one 8gauge but if the amp can take 4 gauge I would use that.

You need to fuse both of them separately, but it'll work.

If the amp takes 8 gauge, two 10 gauge wires would work. Like cam said you need to fuse both with the correct size fuse for 10 gauge.

ok so if i do happen to get that amp, since it has 2x20a fuses on it I would have each line have a 20a fuse or a 40a fuse?

Fuse size is based on the wire gauge not the amp. Use the table:

But smaller won't hurt anything. 2 x 20 will work fine.

"Don't go the cheap route" just get the biggest wire possible so there is less voltage loss/ resistence in the power cable itself.... JMO

^^^ Doing this would get more voltage to your amp..... Bigger cable = less resistence and more power transfered

No you dont... run the same fuse to both under the hood just make sure its the right size

If he's running two cables, he needs to fuse each one for half the amps max current draw. Since it is in parallel, the current will split, therefore 20 A through each, when the amp is cranked. This, I know for a fact.

MS says to choose your fuse size based on the wire gauge, but a short will allow a ridiculous amount of current to flow, so as long as you stay under the amount that the wire is rated to carry for that length, it's all good, I believe. Feel free to correct me.
