Dumb Question

Say i have my subs hooked up to an amp but nothing else hooked up to the amp. If i get a switch to turn on and off the amp would i still be able to listen to the regular sound without the subs? I wanna know if it would hurt it and if it is possble. Ik it is probably a dumb question but i have no clue about anything right now. Thanks
