as you guys know we own the phoenix gold xenon 1200.1 it puts out 1200 watts rms at 1,2,3 or 4 ohms anyway..... we had it hooked up in 2 ohms using one terminal on the amp and we had voltage drop to 12.5 to 12.6 volts and hit 138.1 db......then we hooked the sub up to both terminals on the amp at 2 ohms and hit 139.7 db and voltage drop to 11.2 volts.....my questions is why did we hit 1.6 db more when the amp puts out the same power in both wiring arangements ...and why did we get voltage drop like that when the amp puts out the same power either way

The amp puts out ~1200wrms from 1-4ohm.

You gained SPL due to box rise.

When a sub is wired to a given DC resistance, an amp will actually see a wide range of AC Impedance. As the freq. changes, AC Imp. also changes.

It is VERY common for box rise at or near box tuning to be 3 to 5 times the DCR or even more!!!

For instance:

Wired to 2ohm DCR:
Burp at 50hz, box rise is ~6ohm...you are getting less than 1200w on this burp.

Wired to 1ohm DCR:
Burp again at 50hz, box rise is 3ohm...amp can produce the full 1200w on this burp.

REAL WORLD EVENT:

I had my 9515d wired to 0.35ohm on my IA 20.1, my box rise was ~1.2ohm I got ~1700w out of the 20.1 at that rise w/ my stock batt voltage dropping to ~9v :-)

How did you test your box rise Canaan?

You check RMS Voltage and Current the amp is producing at your burp freq.

Then you plug the #'s in the following equations:

V / I = R <-----box rise

V x I = P <-----power output

Its simple as pi :-)

we just tested more and burped it at port tune (45 hz) at 45 hz test tone and hit 141.5 db with voltaqe drop to 11.7 volts....this sub seems to LOOOOOOOOVVVE the low end...previously every sub we put in our suv hit best at 55 hz (three different subs)....were gonna mess with the port tune for the ti elite now and see if we can get more spl out of it

thanks canaan and kevin
